Active TT’s Primary Education Lead, who joined our team following ten years teaching at a senior level in Liverpool primary schools, and three years in alternative education, leads the programme. Lessons are an hour in length and taught on a one-to-one basis.
Pupils follow the National Curriculum programmes of study, using personalised units of work. Every effort is made to engage pupils on entry by tailoring work to specific learning needs using topics that interest them. For example, one of our pupils is passionate about all things equestrian; another is passionate about Anime.
A unit of work was devised using ‘Feisty Pets’, for the youngest pupil on roll, which she loved. We know that topic based, cross-curricular projects can address core skills and build confidence as a starting point before pupils commence lessons that run parallel to those taught in school.
We are aware that home learning involves parents more closely than when in school, which can bring pressures of its own. Our aim is to make lessons enjoyable and accessible to parents too, so they can provide further support where needed and be rewarded by seeing the progress their child is making. Parents know we are a friendly, supportive face they can contact when they need to.
Education stages are delivered online and face-to-face, using Microsoft Teams and other video conferencing platforms. We email lessons for pupils who prefer to avoid social contact. If pupils do not use online system’s we make sure we hand deliver the work to their door.
